Shows- Part 4!!!

Just when you thought I had forgotten about them...more show pics as promised!!

The show in Indiana was huge and I have

posted quite a few chicken pics in the last posts but now is the time for waterfowl and turkeys. So our lesson today is on Ducks, Geese and Turkeys.

Male ducks usually have a curl in their tail feathers whereas the females don't. Also most male ducks can't quack, they make a hoarse hissing sound. So when you hear ducks making a lot of noise you know it is a group of ladies!

The Cayuga ducks are really neat. They are a medium sized duck and are black but have a green sheen to them. They are really beautiful because they seem to shimmer.

This is a cute little Call duck. they are very small and very sweet BUT they are noisy. QUACK QUACK all the time.

This is a beautiful Male Mandarin Duck. They are also quite small.

Most ducks squat on the ground but not these guys. They like to perch.

They lay their eggs in a cavity of a tree and after hatching the hen calls to the ducklings to get them to jump out and head to the water.

This is one of the few breeds of duck where the male helps raise the young. After the ducklings have hatched he meets up with them in the water and scouts about to keep them safe.

Obviously due to the colouring of these birds they don't have the greatest survival rate in the wild.

They are beautiful ducks.

These geese have long wavy feathers and look very messy!

They are called Sebastopol geese.

This guy with the big floppy dewlap on his neck is called an African goose.

A small portion of the geese in this building. With all the waterfowl in this building it was very hard to hear as they quack non stop.

My nephews favourite duck breed is the Muscovy. This duck was the most beautiful dove grey colour with a little mohawk of feathers on the top of it's head. They are a crested breed that also like to perch.

This is a huge male Muscovy. These guys get really big and the males grow the red bumps all over their face

These ducks are amazing at pest control and eat hundreds of bugs. They are great on a farm to keep down the fly and mosquito populations.

They lay alot of eggs, fly well and their meat is almost fat free. Not greasy like other ducks. They also make great pets.

This is a Muscovy with a Runner duck standing behind it. I use to breed Runner ducks. They look like bowling pins.

A big turkey..gobble gobble

The things on their noses inflate as they breathe, I found it quite fascinating..yes I need to get a life! I had to look up what all the the red fleshy stuff on was called and here is what I found.

The male turkey has a red fleshy gobble hanging from its neck. It also has a red-pink growth on its head called a carbuncle and a long fleshy growth called a snood at the base of its bill.

So that it for now..next time we start into the rabbits!!!!!

Hello Again

This week I have been looking at various harness and collars for pets.

Timmy has a bling collar for public appearances and a soft metallic blue harness for walks.

Pippin wears a choke chain a lot of the time because his neck gets smelly. I will get him a hunting collar in the spring. They are reflective orange plastic over a nylon collar and are totally waterproof. They are great!!

Buster Peebody wears hand me downs most of the time and really does not have a special collar to call his own so I think I will find him one. All these selections have been Timmy approved so we are good to go!!

First we have this beautiful hand carved leather collar. The detail on this collar is beautiful and would make any dog proud to wear it.

I will probably order one of these for Buster Peebody for when we take road trips. He is afraid of tags and keys jingling so this is a great ID collar. Unfortunately he is not micro chipped yet but I will get that done when he has his next teeth cleaning.

Timmy update!

After 2 weeks of waiting I finally got Fifi's ashes back. I put a sculpture of a little black poodle on top of the box and for some odd reason find it comforting having her back. I will always miss her and a chunk of my heart died with her that night but life goes on and it's a brand new year.

So of course with it being a brand new year...I got sick. 3 days in bed but I had my "boys" to keep me company.

Timmy is feeling much better all the healing thoughts must have worked. Thank you.

So while I was sick he decided to show me just how well he is.

Yup, his appetite is back. He helped himself to a cookie that was in the package.

I don't care

When I scolded him he just gave me attitude. So I went to the kitchen to get another cookie and when I came back he was polishing off my toast.

yummy...toast!!!

I suppose I should be angry but I am just happy to have him feeling better. He really does not care because he knows I am standing there taking his pic but it never stops him!

I LOVE my new sweater!

Off to the kitchen I go but this time I take him with me, so he just finds crumbs on the floor to snack on. I finally found a nice sweater to wear in the house. A lot of his are getting ratty from him scratching at them. I'm not sure about the white cuffs but it fits him nice and tight. He likes this one! Of course he still needs his long johns and coats when he goes outside but it is good for his skin to breathe once in a while. I think his little slipper feet need a trim. He has to go back to the vet to get his "delicate area" swabbed (as the vet tech put it) once his drugs are done.

I am a good boy.

I'm bored.

So while Timmy is scooting about my other 2 boys are resting on the floor.

Pippin the BC is getting really fat from being a house dog.

Buster Peebody is doing great, he really is a photogenic little guy!

It was so cold here that I finally had to move the guinea pigs back in the house from the bunny shed. The bunnies are fine but the little GP's can catch a chill really easy and the heat lamp just wasn't enough.

So now I'll get to have some new models to take pics of!

Last post for the year

It has been a tough December. Thanks to everyone for their support. Losing Fifi right before Christmas was hard. I still can't get use to my shadow not being at my side or her yappy greetings whenever I came home. The house is so quiet, even Mr B says he misses her. But there were other worries to occupy my mind..mainly Buster Peebody. He has never been without Fifi and she was his best friend. They played, slept together and she was the brave one. He kept looking for her for a while and was very sad.

He just layed around but seems to be perking up now. I am giving him LOTS of attention and cuddles.

Even Pippin was low which is hard for a Border Collie.

Timmy on the other hand didn't really notice. He is going to be very angry at me for posting these pics .

OH NO she got a new picture box!

Mr B decided a new camera for xmas might take my mind of things and gave me an awesome little nikon Coolpix 500. It can be totally auto or manual. So until I get my new SLR I can still try to learn manual settings. Not yet though. I have to get use to it first.

Timmy on this particular day was being very bad. He had pooped on the floor so he got in trouble. Then I thought "oh no..what if he is like Fi and this is his last day?" So I went to make amends but he was busy drinking the tea out of my mug. He really does not care if he gets into trouble. Afterwards he rubbed his bare butt all over my pillow to get back at me.

Hangover maybe???

Timmy seems to be aging rapidly which worries me. His tongue has started to hang out and he never combs his hair anymore. Buster Peebody is trying to be buddies with him so Timmy uses him as a heater of sorts. Whatever works for them.

Anyhoo last month Timmy became ill, I didn't mention it because I didn't want my blog to be so depressing. Working great for me this month.

So he had a bunch of tests done and found a bunch of things wrong. The main reason he was ill though was due to a very nasty infection in a very delicate area. Only Timmy could get an infected wang cover. You know you love your dog when you rinse his wang off 3 times a day. So he was on meds forever and seemed better until 3 days ago. Once again the infection was back.

So we went to the vet again to get drugs but we can't figure out the root of the infection. Also he was in a lot of pain and crying out. For the first time in 8 years he didn't finish his dinner so I knew it was serious.

We thought he had a blockage because he went into my purse and I found individual wrapped life savers on the floor. So I assumed he had swallowed them whole . So I was prepared to put him down and was trying to be brave but the vet assured me he didn't seem to have belly pain..whew..but wait..so why is he crying out..maybe when he fell UP the stairs 3 times or when Buster Peebody pushed him off the bed he hurt himself? Who knows but they think his back is going which is probably why he walks with a hump in the middle and moves kinda like a crab outside..Timmy can't even be sick like a normal dog. If I wasn't so worried I would find all of this very typical for Timmy.

So since this really is his blog, his story, I felt I should update you folks on Timmy because I have not mentioned him lately. He has to get his liver checked out but until this infection goes away we can't do much. The vet was concerned because he has lost weight but Buster Peebody and Timmy quit eating well after Fifi passed. They still won't eat their morning kibble.

So he is on antibiotics, supplements, fancy schmancy food and I am giving him pain meds even though the vet was worried it would hurt his liver. I'd rather he be comfortable now. The vet also said he should be blind because his cataracts are so bad but he still sees things. I thought he was going crazy, standing at the wall instead of the door to come in but it's because he can't see well. I don't know which is worse.

I'm sick

So I'm hoping he will be fine, here is a pic from today..no energy except when I fed him prime rib.

So I am going to be glad to see the end of this year.

Lots of great things happened but this month has been awful.

So please send Timmy some healing thoughts , he would like that.

Goodbye to my little girl

8 years ago this week I adopted a little unwanted poodle I named Fifi. This morning she died in my arms.
I came home from work frustrated and when I went in my room she had peed and pooped on my bed and carpet. I was very angry and scolded then spanked her.
She had her dinner and watched TV with me then her breathing went strange. We went to bed and she could not get comfy and could not seem to catch her breath so I decided to take her in to the vet first thing this morning. I fell asleep at 2 and woke up at 4 to find her worse. We finally decided to go to the emerg. clinic but she died in my arms on the way there.
I am devastated and feel so guilty that her last day was not a happy one. Why I lost my temper today with her I will never know nor will I ever forgive myself.
Hug your pets everyone. You never know when you might lose them.

RIP my sweet little loyal friend.

Shows- Part 3

Today we will have a lesson in different chicken breeds, there are a few I don't know so if you recognize them speak up.. Most of the pictures are of roosters because as with most birds the roos are more impressive.These are the last of the chicken pictures. I'm sure you are giving a sigh of relief, but I still have TONS of waterfowl and rabbits and even a few cats!

Standard Black Cochin Rooster

This is a BIG bird. They are very placid by nature and very popular. There are 2 sizes. Standard (large) and Bantam (small). Cochins come in both sizes and many colours. I like them and use to own a big fellow like this guy.

Mille Fleur d'Uccle Bantam Rooster

These little guys are really cute with their beards and red colours.

These little guys are well known for their beautiful colours and long feathered feet.

Standard Leghorn Rooster

The leghorn is the egg layer used in factory farming. Pretty boy.

There are also different combs on chickens. This black fellow has a single comb. The comb is the red thingy on their head.

Sicilian Buttercup comb

If you look carefully you will see that this guy's comb is like a flower. It has 2 sides and opens up.

Black Bantam Rose comb

The rose comb looks like a little robin hood hat!

I think this hen is as pretty as the rooster.

Bantam Silver Laced Sebright

Bantam Silver Laced Sebright Hen

The Sebright comes in different colours but I like these the best. They have a rose comb and are different from all other chickens in that the males and females exactly the same feathering.

These two are also bantams and have the rose comb but I can't remember what breed they are. They are pretty though.

Bantam Rooster

Not sure what breed this little guy is but he is really showy!

Sumatra Rooster-Standard

The Sumatra breed is rare. Their tails grow quite long and they carry themselves quite proudly. They closely resemble their ancestors the jungle fowl. They have a pea comb..it looks like a wad of red gum stuck to their heads. They also have multiple spurs (extra spikes) on their legs. Like the silkie they have black skin and black bones.

Yokohama Rooster

This is another rare bird. The Yokohama. They have a walnut comb and have very long plumage. I wish I had taken more pics of the sumatras and this guy. They are so elegant.

Game Breed

These chickens are really interesting. They have llloooonnnggg legs and some of the roosters have their combs dubbed for showing. Dubbed is a nice way of saying they cut the comb off. Ouch. Fighting birds always have their combs removed so the other rooster can't grab hold of it. These birds are not used for fighting but it is similar to docking a dogs tail.

I think they look like they are standing on stilts. They were very interested in everything going on around them and were always sticking their heads in the camera lens.lol

The people behind us dyed their birds with food colouring and they sold more silkies for more money than most. It does not bother the birds. The pink one looks like cotton candy!

Finally my fave of the show. This hen was so curious about me and the camera. I have a ton of great pics of her but leave you with 2 of the funnier ones. This is a Cornish game hen. The little guys you see in the supermarket. They have the thickest legs I've seen on a bird.

Shows!!! Part 2

So to continue on with my rabbit, chicken and cat show series I found that all the traveling, moving around and excitement really tires these animals out.

As everybody in the world knows since I never shut up about it..I have no camera ...so Mr B let me use his little point and shoot. This turned out to be a good thing. The little lens fit right through the bars of the cage and I tuned off the flash and beeps. I was able to get a few good pics.

So when you are at a show you have to come up with many different ways to get a few minutes of sleep.

Baby New Zealand Rabbits

These young New Zealands find taking turns napping in a group setting works for them. This is the only place in the show where you find rabbits together. They are babies in the Meat Pen class.

French Lop

This French Lop uses his ear to rest on..very clever I say. There are different types of Lops. A lop is a rabbit with hanging ears. There are Mini Lops, French Lops, Holland Lops, Velveteen Lops , Giant Lops and others I can't think of right now. I have trouble telling most of them apart. So we will just call them Lops :)

Some like this Flemish Giant just flop right out, keeping his toy close by.

He is really out for the count!!

Belgian Hare

This Belgian Hare was stretching after sleeping in this pic. Looks like he woke up on the wrong side of the bed! The Belgian Hare is an endangered Breed and this was the first time I have ever seen one. There will be way more about this breed in another post soon!!

This black hen looks dead but is actually stretched out sound asleep!

French Lop

To bright with all the lights??? Then cover your eyes with your ears. Works great for this French Lop.

Netherland Dwarf

This little Netherland Dwarf is so tired. These guys are little rabbits with huge eyes and short ears. Adorable!

Flemish Giant

Mr Flemish giant just flops out. These are huge rabbits weighing up to 20 lbs. I use to own one named Rupert and they are very sweet and docile.

Another wiped out bunny. This is a Mini Rex and they have a velvet like fur that is super soft to the touch. A great breed.

Well things here are so busy but I do have a few things to share. I went on my trip to Illinois to visit my sis and left the dogs behind with Mr B. The dogs survived but they gave Mr B alot of grief. They were very naughty and dirty puppies and I had to throw out my carpet because they soiled it so badly. Really now...were did they learn their manners.

So I took a plane ride from Toronto to Chicago then Chicago to Illinois. From there we drove 5 hrs to Indianapolis State Fair Grounds to the Chicken Nationals. phew..then we spent forever unloading birds and walking miles with them because the parking was so bad but eventually we settled in. I took a few pics ..600 to be exact but narrowed it down to 424..some of which I will be sharing with you over the next few posts..So here we go....

First you must wash all the birds. The white ones are left to the last.

Cody also shows a heritage breed called Nankins. These are just little guys known as bantams but are chocked full of personality. I LOVE this breed.

This is the rooster Chick Chick Peep Peep getting ready for the show. He is easier to groom than the silkies. Just a bit of shine and oil and off he goes.

Chick Chick Peep Peep was a single chick that was raised in the house. He likes to watch TV with the family and sometimes forgets he is a chicken. At the show he decided to pick a fight with the rooster beside him and cut up his comb. After a quick repair job he went on to win Best of Breed!

I don't have any pics of the other building because I spent most my time in the youth show area. There were almost 12,000 birds at this show. That includes chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. It was noisy. Cody did really well though and showed in showmanship with his rooster George.

George is the white bird behind Cody..in case you can't tell them apart..lol

So I wandered around the 12,000 birds and found the breed I use to have ..POLISH

Good News

Good news I forgot to share. We did not get ANY baby guinea pigs. YEAH!!!! Phew..that was a close one. I won't let anything like that happen again.

Also I finally finished my unicorn. She took a long time, then she sat for a while before I decided to sell her. I have yet to keep a feltie..one day maybe I will make myself one..!!!!

It took a while to get the mane implanted just right and then a while to sew all the bears in but she turned out quite pretty I think.

Finally I am going away to the USA for a week to visit my sis. We are going to a huge chicken and rabbit show. My nephew is showing his birds. Should be fun!! But shhhhh I have not told the pack yet that I am leaving them with Mr B! I just hope everyone behaves.

The Road Trip- Part 1

While looking for pics on my fried camera's memory card I found some of the road trip we took.

Finally everyone settles down and 2 1/2 hrs later we arrive.

My sis's house. She lives in Illinois but this is her Ontario Canada house. It is a beautiful place just a little overgrown at the moment.

And look who is there to greet us..no other than Toto..our long lost pack brother!!

Goodbye

Today I had to say goodbye to my sweet ferret Hansel. We had almost 11 yrs together and no matter how bad a day I was having he could always make me smile. I decided to put him to sleep before his illness made him any more uncomfortable. I'm really going to miss this little guy.

Catch Up!!

Where has the time gone..I have some catching up to do...hmmm..where do I start.

Well I still do not have a decent camera since I fried my old one. Ebay is being rather tricky but someday I will get one..sigh

I have been very busy job hunting..but have not found the right one yet..sigh, sigh

One of my guinea pigs is not pregnant :) One of them is :( The other 3 I'm not sure..triple sigh..
I'll let you know the final count in a couple of weeks.

I do have a few pics from the old camera I have been going through so I can still do some posts!!!

Finally Little Fifi's blood work came back okay and she started her other new pills. They are huge! She seems to be doing much better on the combined ones and the cooler weather helps.

She is so hard to photograph but I like this one

I have also been VERY busy sewing. I have enough pouches, now on to wristlets!!!

Little FiFi

The last little while I have been noticing that FiFi has been a little "off". Not her usual peppy poodle self. I thought it could just have been the heat but then the little cough started. Just once or twice during the night last week.

So I thought..oh oh..heart..then the three little weasels (as I call them) were sleeping soundly beside each other. I noticed Fifi was taking almost 3 breaths to Buster Peebodys 1. So yesterday morning she was kind of puffing out..so I phoned the vet.

Now I don't have a vet here in town but it just so happens I found my most fav. vet ever opened shop 15 min. away..so needless to say I was happy.

Fifi has only had a vet call once in 8yrs. She is a healthy girl...but...after an examination, and chest xrays..sure enough I was right.

Sometimes I hate being right. She has a grade 4 heart murmer, fluid builup around the heart and her heart is slightly enlarged. So now she is on "water pills" to get rid of the fluid and 2 different heart pills to help get things working better.

The vet was surprised that I noticed the signs because they were so subtle..but we all know our dogs, don't we!!!! The good news is for an old girl her joints look great, few signs of any arthritis. BUT she needs to lose a pound, She has always been around 8-9ilbs and now she is 9.8 lbs..YIKES!! Now I'm just waiting for the blood results ,I have a feeling I know something is going to show up there. I hope I'm wrong.

Anyhoo she enjoyed the visit, poor Mr B had to foot the bill and I think I am going to need another job to keep these dogs in meds...oh well....we all get old at some point. Don't worry though, she is still her happy little self and should feel better soon.

Turn off the flash crazy lady..you are going to give me a heart attack and I am NOT fat, just fluffy!!!

Yes Timmy, no new camera. Fifi is more important than taking pics of you without flash eyes. You may have noticed Timmy's new "do". He wanted a more youthful look so he cut off his long fu man chu whiskers.

Yes Timmy for a 200yr old dog you do look younger. BTW the vet remembers you and can't wait to see you!! Isn't that nice?

I fried my camera

I plugged my camera into the wrong adaptor and fried it. I bought this camera 11 yrs ago when digital was pretty new and it never gave me one bad shot..and I killed it. I have all the fancy dancy lenses to go with it but no camera...so I am sad and my future pictures will look like crap....I am going to go cry now. If any of you have suggestions on any cameras you have and love, please let me know.

Tutorial : How to wash a Guinea Pig

Step 1: Find a stinky smelly Guinea Pig or two if they happen to be walking by.

These 2 smell like prime candidates. Skittles and Secret..my boys.

Secret even looks like a skunk so that might explain the odour.

" Your butt smells..if that is your butt..where is your head??"

Ahem...

Step 2: Carry your piggies safely to the washing area

"I can't believe she threw us in a bucket. I still can't tell which end is your head and which is your butt"

Skittles tends to be a little outspoken.

Step 3: Place you piggies gently in the tub

"You call this a tub??? It's a ratty ole laundry basin. You said we were going to the spa!!!"

Step 4: Wet the piggies

" Singing in the rain, just singing in the rain...I like this part..come on Secret ..join in"

Step 5: Lather your piggies with a gentle diluted shampoo

" Ha Ha Secret looks like the hair you pull out of the drain!!"

Step 5: Rinse, pat dry and put oven temperature to 350 degrees

NOT FUNNY TIMMY...GET OFF THIS POST..geeeezzz cheeky little bugger..

Step 5: Let the piggies dry off in a warm spot

Poor Secret..he is really annoyed with me. Look at that stink eye.

Step 6: Comb the hair

Okay Skittles, enough out of you. Poor Secret has gone into hiding he is so embarrassed by Skittles.

PS..Right after this tutorial was filmed Skittles escaped into the pen with the ladies. We will know the results of his..errrrr....dancing in about 70 days.

Timmy and FiFi have been let off after questioning, but Buster Peebody is still a suspect.

"My client is a lot of things, like an idiot, but not a shoe killer and if anything he needs help for hoarding. His OCD causes many problems and his hoarding does not allow him time to be destructive as the evidence will show...

"Many hoarded toys..which were stolen from other dogs by the way....but no chewed up parts.."

"Maggie did it!!!!" How do you know this Timmy.."well just look.."

I came in the house this afternoon and found this!!!!

One of Mr B's shoes chewed up ....again....since Maggie moved in alot of shoes have been ruined. BUT who killed this one?

Well that is a big mess for such a little dog, but Buster Peebody can pull off some amazing things.

Bad News

Okay..bad news time and I mean BBBAAADDDD NNNEEEWWWWSSSS

In the picture below you can see how I let my piggies visit. I put a big round pen up and put the ladies in it. Then I put the lid of a cage in the corner and put the boys in that so they can be a part of the herd but not actually IN with the girls.

See how nicely this works?? I've done it numerous times with no problems.

See ZuZu Petals talking to her son Secret?? Isn't that nice???

Well I decided the 2 boys were stinky and gave them a bath. Then I did the cage setup. I was outside watching them for quite a while and then checked on them a few times later and all was well. That was until I went out after dinner and there was Skittles, my most fav. piggie and is a BOY was in with the ladies. All 5 ladies, his mom, sisters and ZuZu Petals.

I was shocked, dismayed, upset, feeling sick, almost cried, sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, nerves on edge...you get the picture.

So there is a very good possibility that I could end up with 20+ piggies...whhhaaa..now I really want to cry.

They are not like rabbits and do not breed at the drop of a hat BUT knowing my luck and knowing that Skittles is very virile, handsome and smelt very good after his bath ..I shall probably end up with babies. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that not too many will be knocked up.

I still have no idea how he got out. Good boy Secret was still in the cage. I have no idea what I will do with babies because I already kept all the surprise ones my females came with.

I already kept all the surprise Bunnies My female gave me. I never had ANY litters of anything when I lived on the farm...why is this happening now!!!

Oh well in 70 days I will know what the future holds...WWHHHAAAAAAAAA

New Love

I've owned a lot of different animals over the years but these guys have won me over!! I don't know why I didn't get one or errrrr seven ...years ago!!!

Meet the PIGS..guinea pigs to be exact.

In this mass of fur there are 7 guinea pigs. Did I want 7 guinea pigs....nooooooo, but here they are!

I went to a chicken sale and as anyone knows who has followed this blog I should never go to those things. I had decided that I wanted 2 guinea pigs. Where I keep my horse there are 2 awesome piggies and I just had to get one or two or seven.

So I picked out a cute one and since they were 2 for $5 I also picked her out a friend.

They were both girls and both 3 mths. old. I said the the guy selling them "there isn't any chance of them being pregnant is there?" and of course he said no way they are too young.

So I felt pretty safe and brought them home. They were soooo cute but the one named Jellybean kept getting fatter so I finally had to admit she was knocked up. I kept flipping the other one I named ZuZu Petals upside down to check her "privates" to make sure she was a she. I think it gave her a complex.

So I checked out all the facts on the Internet and sure enough, just like it said, exactly 2 months after the sale Jellybean gave birth to 4 babies. I was sooo excited. They were amazing, eyes open..running around. Luckily I had separated ZuZu Petals and Jellybean a few days before but ZuZu Petals wasn't getting much attention because of the new babies. That was until I was feeding them and a baby ran out of ZuZu Petals house. I didn't even know she was preggars because she always kept her girlish figure. Jellybean on the other hand was HUGE You could sit her up like a dog begging and she couldn't budge because her baby belly would settle in around her. He was a little older than Jellybean's kids and looked very healthy. I named him Secret.

Unfortunately Jellybean had 2 runts. One was just small and I named her Jello, because I like Jello, but the other had a crooked head and gimpy hind leg. I named her Sprout. When I came back from work on day 2 I found the sickly runt Sprout rejected in a corner of the cage all by herself..so super owner jumped into action and gave her to ZuZu Petals. After all her boy Secret would do better with a sibling. She basically sniffed her once and then tucked her into her hair and that was that. She thrived with her new mommy and all was well in the piggie world.

So here are some pics..more to come of course as I introduce you to the gang...and yes I kept all 7 of them!!.ZuZu Petals, Jellybean, Sprout, Skittles, Secret, Bean and Jello.

Here is Mama Jellybean. She is a sweet piggie who loves her treats. Very easy to handle and gets along with everybody. She is a little camera shy but has scruffy tri coloured hair.

This shot has Jellybean's butt on the left, then Bossy Bean in the center and little Sprout on the right. Jello is behind them with her belly bandage on but that's another story.

This is ZuZu Petals. She is red and white and has long back hair that I comb all the time. She is super friendly and talks to me all the time.

Here she is talking with her son Secret.

They are so cute with their fluffy hair and floppy ears and I love how they sing like a little choir of angels. Well maybe not angels but they are sweet!!

Book Review

I read ALOT..thank goodness for the library..I am a constant visitor there. So I thought I might start sharing some of my fav. reads of the moment.

I just finished reading "The Distant Hours" by Kate Morton and it was one of the best reads I have had in a long time. It's a big book, 500+ pages and has an awesome cast of characters. The story twists and weaves and just when you think you have it all figured out another "bomb" drops and everything changes. I love her descriptive writing style and she has become one of my fav. authors. Here is a short write up on the book.

I am one of those people who always end up jumping to the end of a book to see if I was right because I get bored of the story. Never happened with this book. So if you like historical books with a twist and turn..try this one out!

Hansel is my ferret and is a total sweetheart.

Since he was never descented he is quite stinky but I don't care . The weather was nice today so I decided to bring him outside. As you can see he is not in the best of shape but he is going on 10 yrs old and has cancer so please overlook it :)

The cancer has caused his hair to fall out so now I have a hairless dog and a hairless ferret. Most of my animals are old now so I am constantly worried about their problems.Except for Buster Peebody, he is a young 7yrs old and the baby of my pack.

He has always loved Hansel and they use to play together but now Hansel gets tired very quickly and sleeps alot.

Buster loves anything stinky so when he found a ferret poop in the grass he just had to roll in it. I will spare you the sight of that pic..

Hello out there!!

We have a new computer!!! It is fast, portable and did I say fast???

So I can blog again. My old computer was taking 1/2 hour just to check emails so blogging was impossible but here we are new and improved!!

Timmy is still going strong and was enjoying a sunny day.

This is what happens to your eyes when you dig around in a shed and try to eat rabbit poop.

Bad Timmy.

Timmy is getting quite senile but is still very active.

As you can see he has a few lumps on him. On a hairless dog they show up quite well.

Well that's it for now but we have lots of stories to tell and new friends for you to meet!

Heartbreak Again

I received a call yesterday that I have been dreading for a while. My little black Shetland pony Roo was very sick and it was time to put him down. For the past 2 years I have been battling heaves with this little fellow...a sort of horse asthma...he had it very bad. When I moved him to the new farm last summer the wonderful lady that cared for him got him back on his feet again .

He had been up and down but a new drug a week ago gave me hope that he might make it through the summer, but that did not happen. With the heat, humidity and his allergy issues he finally just could not breathe.

We owned him years ago and sent him with another horse to a farm to retire. I kept tabs on him all those years and when the farmer decided to sell the farm I brought Roo home. He was in his late 20's and had a good easy life. I'll miss the little devil but he struggled so hard to breathe it was time to let him go. Unfortunately when I heard he was so sick I told them to put him to sleep as soon as possible and not make him suffer a moment longer and not wait for me to see him. I had hoped to see him once more and say goodbye but it was not meant to be, the vet had just left when I got there.

I hate to make my blog sad but I felt Roo deserved a little write up. He will be missed by his horse buddy Nelson, his caretaker Lainie and her children, all the people who loved him at the farm, my niece Madison who I gave him to as a birthday gift and of course me.

Rest in peace little guy, hope you can take a deep breathe now....

Both these guys are gone now but I will always have some pictures to remember them by.

Well I'm back ..believe it or not I have been sick for a full month. A combo of migraines and a mono like virus but I am finally feeling a little better.

We had a very sad thing happen here. Mr B.'s dog Daisy had to be put to sleep. She has been in pain for a long time and she finally told him it was time. He has been so sad, she has been his best friend for 12 yrs.

She was the sweetest dog ever and will be greatly missed.I had kept gently mentioning that he should think about getting another dog, but while Daisy was still alive he did not want to even consider it and said "never again". Well after a while of missing her terribly he decided he needed a distraction to help him heal..so here she is..introducing Maggie!

It's nice to see Mr B. smiling again. She is a reg. Golden Retriever from imported stock. I researched her lines before we got her because we wanted to make sure we were getting the healthiest puppy we could. Her pappy is from Finland and has 10 generations clear of hip, elbow eye problems. On her mom's side she comes from a breeder with 35yrs of experience who actually uses her dogs to hunt..not just look pretty. Her lines are imported from Australia.She has a loving outgoing personality and everybody is her best friend at first sight....except my dogs of course.

Timmy and Buster Peebody can't figure out why they have to wear belly bands when she is the one piddling everywhere. Timmy's skin is a little pink because his bad agent let him out in the sun without sunscreen. The boys tend to mark when a new dog comes to the pack so they are wearing them as a precaution. If any of you have a nervous pee dog like Buster Peebody or a marker these are great belly bands. Very comfortable and soft. Wash and wear great. I got them off Etsy from http://www.etsy.com/shop/diaperjeanie and HIGHLY recommend them.

So Timmy..what do you think of your new pack mate?

"She is Crazy..I do not like her at all..always running around and bumping into me. There should be a law made about bad puppies" I should mention to all you Timmy fans that he is quite deaf and his sight is failing so she scares him appearing out of nowhere. Don't worry though, I'll take good care of him.

Here I am looking and feeling ghastly watching Maggie try to look innocent. Now that Mr B. is around I can actually be in a few pics..looking at myself I wonder if that is a good thing!

Here is Fifi and I. She is the only one that likes Maggie. When Maggie first came here and was crying, Fifi was very upset and kept going to her to try to comfort her. This is the only pic I have of Fifi and I. She is a sweet little thing.

I'm sick

It's suppose to be spring and here I am sick with the flu. I'm feeling quite sorry for myself but Timmy is enjoying it..every time I get out of bed he steals my tea..he such a brat..I was going to visit my horses this weekend but just did not feel up to it. My horses are doing quite well at their new home but I miss them terribly. After seeing Dante daily for 26 yrs it is hard to only see him monthly right now. I was working 2 jobs but quit one so hopefully I will have more time now.

The good news is I made my 100th sale on Etsy. It's taken awhile but I finally got there.

Usually Easter is my best selling time but this year was very slow. I got stuck at 99 sales and it didn't budge for ages..lol...Finally Luna, my unicorn sold.

I thought it would be fun to make a pink unicorn with spots for a change. Now she's off to her new home. Safe travel Luna!!

I also have started sewing again. Kids are always wanting my felties but felties are too delicate to take a lot of handling..so I made up a pattern of kid friendly pets. They even have safety eyes!

I still have a few changes to make but am quite happy with the little guys..they are so soft and sweet. I think though I will take new pics of them. These ones seem quite blah compared to my green background above. I'm going to make some bears, puppies and maybe even a piggie..who knows. I need a break from felting. I was going to do some painting but seem to have a block right now...maybe later when I am feeling better..

Sorry I have not posted lately but things around here are really busy. I'm quitting my job of 20 years..starting a new one part time...moving...moving my horses and cats..moving my pets to the new home and getting things set up!!!

My fiance Mr B found a sick squirrel so he has been taking care of it. It has become quite tame but it is a skittish little thing. Well it got loose on the weekend and long story short ..I grabbed it and it sunk it's teeth into my finger and would not let go!! Mr B had to pry it's jaws apart to make it let go. The squirrel was covered with blood, Mr B was splattered and it was dripping out of my finger. I have been bitten, scratched knocked over by animals..heck..I even sewed my finger with an industrial sewing machine but nothing ever hurt like this! I was almost faint from the pain. So while I was cursing and swearing Mr B had to go make sure the squirrel was okay. "Poor Murrell" he says.."he's all covered with blood and freaked out"

He was worried about the squirrel more than me..and I'm going to marry this man..the thing that makes me feel good though is while he was hanging off my finger, I was pulling him...so I think I stretched him about an inch!

anyhoo..it is swollen and red. Bled for 8 hrs on and off but it's not infected...yet..so no felting for a bit..but here is what I had done before it happened!!

I made this unicorn recently. He is quite large for me..around 7". I made his hooves and horn out of clay and really liked how they worked out. He is made from alpaca and his mane and tail are tibetian lambs wool. I named him Cloud after a rat terrier I read about on occasion :)
Anyhoo I put him on ebay and he sold. He is off to Vegas!!!

I just finished a large dragon but am waiting to put wings on him. I am trying a new technique so it should be interesting to see how they turn out. I'm also on a dog felting kick...I'm going to make a whole pack of them..it's fun! So far I have a Border Collie, Boston Terrier, Dalmatian, Basset Hound, Afghan Hound and a golden lab...any other suggestions?? I also have started a pegasus..my first one...I'll try to post some pics as I go along!

Timmy has decided that the squirrels are getting a bum wrap with OWAS and has decided to step in. He has opened a training facility which he is funding with a grant from his friend Queen Elizabeth. She is horrified that squirrels are being treated badly. In England they are protected!

R.I.P Archie

Yesterday at noon I came home to find my bird Archie dead on my bed. All his tail feathers were pulled out and he had a tiny cut in his breast. He was also covered in saliva.
FiFi, Buster Peebody, Timmy and Ferret Face were all in the room.

Fifi would never do anything like that, Ferret face is so old that she could never move fast enough to catch him. So that left Timmy and Buster Peebody.

Timmy usually sleeps til noon when I go in and wake him up so I figured it was probably Buster Peebody. When I let them back into the room Buster Peebody ran straight to the spot where I found the tail feathers..he did it...I just know it. Since the great hamster massacre in '07 when 8 hamsters died from Hansel(ferret) and Buster Peebody scheming together there has been no indication of any problems.

Archie loved to fly all the time and had lived in the room for 2 years. I had never seen any reason to worry about the dogs killing him.
I feel very guilty, I guess I should have kept him locked up even though he hated it.
I will miss his machine gun/woody woodpecker noises that greeted me every morning...
RIP Archie

My poor dogs. I practice grooming on them and poor Buster Peebody gets the worst of it. His groom was the worst but it is growing in nicely now. Timmy was a mistake. I was trimming his fu-man-chu moustache with my super long extra sharp shears went he flipped his ear forward and poof...1/2" of ear hair gone..So then I had to fix up the other ear. Then he looked weird with long sides and short ears so I had to trim it all off. I was almost in tears and vowed never to cut a dogs hair again...So I call this his Johnny Depp look with the long pieces still falling around his head. Everyone likes it better but me. I miss combing his silve locks..oh well

So here is the gang celebrating their new summer styles..

Cody and Toto

Recently we had very special visitors at the Funny Farm. My nephew Cody and his Cairn Terrier Toto came for a visit. I don't get to see Cody as much as I would like so I always look forward to these visits. He mentioned that he would like to be on my blog...so there you go Cody!!!!

Cody and Toto..How handsome is this kid!!!! Takes after his Aunt Jennifer:)Cody loves his dog (runs in the family) and this little dog is one of the toughest I have met. He has been raised with Cody and they wrestle, play fetch, tug of war and he just rolls with the punches!! A great kids dog..

I clipped Toto while he was visiting. He ended up with less hair, looking neater but still scruffy. He is a monkey but overall a fun little guy to have around!

Timmy hates him but Buster Peebody thinks he's the greatest guy in the world to play with.

Timmy Again

Timmy has been in rehab and as soon as he heard I was ill he rushed home. He knows when I am sick there will be lots of tea to steal. So while we were chatting it slipped that he was only at rehab a few days. Due to his poor behaviour and temper tantrums they called in Jo the Supernanny..

They felt that since he was acting like a child they would bring in a nanny.

Long story short here is a pic they took of Timmy right before he bit her finger.

I only had to take one look at his expression to know what was coming...so he was kicked out..Timmy has been traveling since them and plans to show me the pics as they get developed..hmmmm

So he asked if I had seen him on TV with the Queen lately..HUH????

Here he is hanging with "lizze and phil" at the races..he says "Lizzie" makes the best tea!!

He even wore his tie to the meeting with the Obamas..how I missed this on the television coverage is beyond me! The queen finds his fashion sense helpful.

Finally here was the group shot of all the dignitaries and if you look closely you will see Timmy sitting on the queen's lap..just click on it to get the larger pic....Unbelievable..I am almost afraid to find out where else he has been. I'll keep you posted!!

Well I'm back..after posting about swine flu I get sick with a flu bug for 2 weeks. Now I have pink eye and my eye swelled sooo huge it looked like I had been bitten by something. At work now I have 2 computers to stare at all day. We have done a merger of sorts with another company so we are very busy which is a good thing! After looking at 2 screens all day though I don't feel like going home and blogging..I have just been going to bed...my favourite place....my bed.

It has not been a good week here at the funny farm. I slammed my right hand which already has nerve damage in my hay shed door...ouch just does not cover it...typing with my left hand is rather awkward too! My sis can no longer take my horses to live with her, so now I have to find an affordable place to keep them or I can't move out AND I gave my goats away to a new home. That was hard ..very hard..but I am going to see them on Sunday so that should cheer me up I'm sure!

All the news wants to talk about right now is Swine Flu or excuse me H1N1 virus. I know it is a serious thing but I really feel the media is over doing it...like always..In Alberta (a province in Canada) a farm worker who came back from Mexico on vacation infected the 200 pigs that are at the farm. Pigs don't die from the flu, they just get symptoms then get over it. So rather than kill every pig in sight they just quarantined the pigs..and the man..which I thought for once was a good move.

I love pigs..they are smart, clean and very clever..so in honor of all the pigs getting a bad rap right now I dedicate my Fave day to them

Timmy strikes again..

I did not go to my animal sale today as planned. The weather was hot yesterday but cold and rainy this morning. Plus having to drive out at 3:30 AM didn't appeal to me. I must be getting really old! It's probably a good thing I didn't go because who knows what I might have come home with. Of course there are 2 more smaller sales coming up..tee hee..

So I have some time this evening and I feel I should really let you friends of Timmy know what is going on with him.The reason his new name is Terrible Timmy.

Well you all know how I love easter but because of my migraine and headaches problems I am suppose to stay away from sweets..So I was careful all day about my sugar and was really looking forward to this little candy. To make it worse ..he had eaten most of it but when I went to grab it he licked the rest of it..bugger..had to throw it out...I must admit..I spanked him...

So I said to MrB "Whaaaa..Timmy ate my choc.bunny"
Mr B said "That smug little Ba***rd. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs..give him the rest"

While I was telling Mr B how that was not a nice thing to say I looked down and he had opened my purse again and pulled out my cookies!! I was furious and locked him away for a while.

So when I brought him out later I put the purse on the table. 10 min. later he was laying on the floor chewing something..I yelled "Spit it Out!!" It was my roll of Tums. I guess the chocolate upset his stomach..I wasn't worried about him eating choc. though. The time he ate a 1/3 of a brick of rat poison never even phased him. Cast iron stomach this one.

We won't even go into the peeing in the food bowl incident...so that was it..Timmy needed an intervention. Since he is quite famous and I wanted to keep this on the hush hush I decided rehab was the way to go. Of course Timmy said it had to be "celebrity" rehab..So I checked him into Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew.

You will have to excuse the pic but Timmy refused to be groomed and would not wear any clothes..just his fave hat.. so off he went as is. You can see the terrible state he was in.

He has made some good friends though and has sent me some pics which I will share with you.

This is Brittany Spears showing Timmy how to get a clean , close shave. She did his hair after this.

Amy Winehouse gave him makeup tips which I hope he ignores.

Finally Timmy told Lindsay Lohan if you are going to pass out keep your mouth closed. It stops the drool.

Here is Timmy in the lounge of the rehab after Brittany got him cleaned up. Thanks Brit for all your help! I think he is getting ready to steal something off the table. He really needs help.

So I have tried to catch up but I just realized I follow ALOT of blogs. When he was wee this behaviour was not acceptable now he is so big some serious damage could be done!..so he got a cuff upside the head and was quite meek after that. It got me to thinking..I like goats, they are one of my Fave things..

Hi ..sorry I disappeared for a while but I have had non stop cluster migraines and headaches. I'm still hurting but alot less than before. So I am going to slowly catch up on all your news in your blogs and try to get some new pics to post. Things are finally warming up here so I might be able to get some nice pics of the farm animals!

My easter was spent with a bad headache and a horrible little Timmy..but thats for another post...

Here is my latest feltie. I've been using Ebay lately and have been very lucky. So I thought a Mare and Foal just in time for mother's day might go over well!
